RuneQuest Backups Privacy Policy

Scope and operator
This policy covers the RuneQuest Backups administrative tool operated by Jack Carpenter. It does not cover the RuneQuest learning application or other services on this website.
Google Drive access and use
The tool requests Google Drive’s limited drive.file permission to create and manage backup files it creates or that the account holder explicitly authorizes.
It processes encrypted backup files and associated metadata, such as filenames, timestamps, file sizes, and checksums, to upload backups, verify their integrity, monitor freshness, and manage retention.
Google authorization credentials allow the tool to perform these operations on the account holder’s behalf.
Storage and access
Backups are encrypted before upload to Google Drive. Recovery keys are held separately. Credentials are stored on the operator’s computer or in the automation platform’s secret storage.
Google Drive stores the uploaded files. GitHub Actions is the planned automation platform. During setup, backups contain synthetic staging data.
Google user data is not sold, used for advertising, or used to train AI models.
Retention and deletion
During setup, backup copies remain until the operator deletes them. The planned automated retention period is 35 days. Separately retained recovery-test copies may remain longer.
The account holder can revoke access through Google Account permissions and delete stored backups from Google Drive. Revoking access does not itself delete existing files.
